Over the years the PFGS has evolved from a small group of postgraduates who met once a year, to a large international organization and vibrant on-line community (check out the forum), which runs a number of UK meetings throughout the year culminating in the annual colloquium, see the recent colloquia page.

Since its inception in 1998, the PFGS has sought to provide a supportive environment for postgraduate students involved in Life Sciences, Ethics and Society. The large online community and regular meetings give postgraduates the opportunity to meet and network, to discuss ideas and to talk through the pitfalls of postgraduate research. Members also have the opportunity to present their research in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

During 2008-2009 the PFGS ran a series of regional events funded by an ESRC seminar grant. These seminar groups were multi-institutional groups of academic research, postgraduate students and non-academic users who met regularly to exchange information and ideas with the aim of advancing research in their fields. For further details of these meetings please visit the
ESRC Regional Meetings page.
